Rosie Hopkins is back! Delightful, enjoyable story
I absolutely love the Rosie Hopkins series, and had been eagerly awaiting this release in paperback (so mum can read it after me). The first opportunity I had to start this after it arrived, I just had to read this fabulous addition to the story.Yes this is Rosie Hopkins book 3, and if you are worried about coming to this series late, then don’t be. There is a lovely 6 page introduction to the series, that I would urge everyone reads, as it brings you right up to speed with the highlights of the story so far. I found it was enough, that despite having read the previous this time last year, I wasn’t left, as you often are with series, floundering around trying to remember what had happened.I just wish all authors of books that appear in series, would use Jenny Colgan’s OmniSequeliser!Onto the story itself, and well I really don’t want to spoil anything about it. It was brilliant being back in Lipton, and catching up with Rosie, Stephen, Lillian, Lady Lipton and all the villagers, and the first time Edison came into the shop for his Edinburgh Rock, it took me right back to the first book, and I have loved seeing him grow as a secondary character. There is a huge new addition to the cast in this story, and is key to most of the plots in the book. Let’s just say the last sentence of the blurb is the best hint I can give but even that, the circumstances are not what you would predict. There are some incredibly emotional scenes in The Christmas Surprise, some sad and some just so beautiful. I loved the wedding that features, and some of what occurs during it really did bring a tear to my eye.A Christmas Surprise is incredibly easy to read, I couldn’t believe how fast I was wrapped up in the story, and the pages just turned, an the writing drew you in, and kept you reading. As I was enjoying the book so much, my only issue with this book is that it had to end. And I can’t quite tell whether there will be another or not, although I’m sure there is room for one more tale of Rosie Hopkins.

Another brilliant book
This book is the third and final book in the Rosie Hopkins series. It’s just as good as the previous two and has such a lovely feel good story throughout. It also lets us know how the story ends for the characters we have got to know and it really is a beautiful storyline. Would highly recommend.

I almost loved this. I wanted to give it 4
I almost loved this. I wanted to give it 4.5 stars and I’m only omitting one because Jenny Colgan needs a better editor – you cannot stimulate someones ovaries with your fingers (!!) and as the membranes were already ruptured I doubt very much there was anything left of the cervix (which is the bit you are stimulating) to sweep anyway. However, glaring medical anomalies aside and so long as you’re not a social worker (I’m not but I do know they don’t carry ipads) and don’t live in Derby this was touching, thought provoking and very very lovely and I adored the ending. As always the recipes look delicious too and I shall be having a go at these very soon.

Read and be happy! I loved this book
Read and be happy!I loved this book 🙂 I’m not surprised I loved it because I really enjoyed Ms Colgan’s other books too. I read this in front of the woodburner, cuppa on the go – it’s the perfect book for this! I actually ended up reading it in bed, into the wee small hours as I just couldn’t put it down!! I did mean to ration myself, but hey ho!Read this if you love books which touch you, books which make you feel warm inside and ache for the characters. I personally identified with something that happens to Rosie in this book, and it made me both cry and feel hopeful. There’s a really useful intro if you haven’t read the other books in the series, but I’d recommend that you do, ‘cos they’re lovely too!And by the way, I also grew up on The Dark is Rising books like Jenny Colgan, and here’s my secret – I still read them now!!So my recommendation is that you read, enjoy, and then find some more JC books to read. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Lipton!!

Rushed…
First off I am a Jenny Colgan fan… but sadly with this book I felt a little let down – the storyline felt rushed.I know this is fiction but when portraying ‘real life’ it’s loosely based on facts – but reading a 1-2 month old baby was rolling over unaided or a 2 month old baby sitting in a high chair had me wondering if I’d skipped some chapters or mis-read the timescales so had to re-read to make sure I hadn’t missed something but it was as it was ….. the characters from books 1 & 2 seem to have lost their warmth in this book and I couldn’t gel to them as well. I’m pleased I read it to complete the trilogy but feel it shouldn’t have continued past book 2

Good book
Jenny Colgan writes very well. Her style is easy to read and very entertaining. I enjoyed this book very much, I didn’t think it was quite good enough to give five stars, but I would recommend if you are looking for a festive and easy read.

I absolutely am obsessed with the series!!!! I have been reading them for months I every spare second I get and between work and my two little boys is not much which is why it took months to read these wonderful books!! I love Jenny Colgan. I copy almost all the recipes in all her books which I absolutely love that she put in. I feel like I am there with Rosie and Lillian reminds me a bit of my grandmother which bring wonderful memories back. Although I have never been any where near Great Britain it is a dream to go and I want to visit the sweet little villages and towns that Jenny Colgan has brought to me in Wheeling, WV, USA. Not just this book but all of her books transport me to places over dreamed of going. I lover her and all her books so much!!!! I hate when series end and I hate the cliffhanger at the end with Rosie having what seems to be morning sickness?!?!? Absolutely amazing!!!!
