She’s making a list – and checking it twice. But is there a nice guy among all her naughty exes?
When a psychic tells fiesty, superstitious Kelly Byrne that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas. Kelly immediately writes up an ‘Ex List’ and starts contacting old boyfriends to figure out which one is the one. When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. The trouble is, sparks are flying with someone she’s never given a chance: her best friend, Mark.
Mark Blakely has watched the guys on Kelly’s list break her heart, and he’s not looking forward to watching them do it all over again. Mark’s always been there for her, but the timing’s never worked out for their relationship to be something more. Now, just as Mark is ready to move on, the sexual tension between them is suddenly off the charts. With Christmas morning around the corner, he just hopes Kelly will wake up and realize that everything she wants has been right in front of her all along.

An Ex for Christmas
~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~This is classic Ms Layne, and very enjoyable because of it. Kelly is a fun character with such an extreme belief in fate that she drives her BFF somewhat crazy. He is much more practical, but humours her because he has always done anything to keep her in his life. But this Christmas, her plan is really causing him pain, and thinking that maybe it is finally time to move on …Never has it been more obvious to even the most casual observer that these two people are perfect for each other, but somehow Kelly has been completely oblivious – so when she starts to wonder why being near Mark is feeling more appealing than just friends usually does, she doesn’t understand what her body is trying to tell her brain. It has to be said that Mark has the patience of a saint, and she is incredibly lucky that he has! What with Rigby, their shared dog; bartender and ex-girlfriend Erica; and the whole cast of ex-boyfriends; this is a very enjoyable read, with some super humour, some perfectly romantic moments, and some very heated ones.Great Christmas reading, thank you Ms Layne.~~Wicked Reads Review Team~~

All along
This is book #5 in the Love Unexpectedly series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading this series in order.Kelly & Mark have been best friends for so long. They can finish each other’s sentences. They can tell when a relationship is not working. What Kelly cannot seem to notice is their attraction to one another.Mark has been waiting for the right moment to sweep her off her feet. Kelly is always in another city, with another man, or just plain oblivious. Will Mark ever get his chance to be the man Kelly really needs? This was such a great story. I laughed, cried and even laughed while I cried. This author never disappoints. Such a truly sweet read about best friends and why they are truly the. best for you. I loved every page and honestly hope we see these characters again. This book gets a 4/5 Kitty’s Paws UP!***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley and its publishers in exchange for an honest review only.

Another Fantastic Read from Lauren Layne!
LOVED, LOVED this book! An Ex for Christmas is exactly why Lauren Layne is one of my favorite authors! Kelly is a teacher at a prestigious elementary school in NYC. She is looking forward to the Christmas holidays even if she will be alone. On her way back to her weekend home in upstate New York, she meets a mysterious woman who tells her she will find her true love before Christmas. However, she says it will be someone that Kelly already met. Kelly, being who she is, composes a list of all her exes. She plans on reconnecting with them to determine which one is her soulmate. She decides to get the help from her best friend, Mark.Mark has always been there for Kelly, but Kelly doesn’t realize he wants to be there for her more than just a best friend. He has always been in love with Kelly, but he never found the right time to tell her. He watched as all Kelly’s boyfriends broke her heart. He is trying to move on, but as they spend more time together, something is different. The sexual chemistry between them sizzles. Could Kelly finally be seeing what was right in frontof her the whole time? One thing Layne always does so well are her quirky characters, never making them over the top or corny. Kelly is no exception. This woman is hilarious. She is superstitious, believing in fortune tellers, tea leaves, and NEVER crosses a path with a black cat. On the other hand, Mark doesn’t believe in any of it. But, he humors Kelly. He is devoted to her. Seriously, this guy takes care of her dog during the week while she is teaching. He just lets her be who she is and loves her anyway. They are perfect together.Even though the book takes place over a short period of time, nothing is left out. Layne did a fabulous job of showing the foundation and lasting friendship between Kelly and Mark. I was just waiting on Kelly to finally wake up and see her love was in front of her the whole time! If you’re looking for a perfect holiday read, look no further than An Ex for Christmas!***Read and Reviewed for Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews***

Too predictable and cutesy for my tastes
A classic holiday romance style which fell flat for me.Kelly Byrne is the sort of superstitious woman who reads her horoscope, consults a Magic 8 ball before every decision and believes in fortune tellers. When a mysterious woman tells her that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas – so she starts a campaign to contact all of her ex-boyfriends.Kelly lives and works in New York but also has a place in upstate New York where she spends weekends, her best friend since they were children, Mark Blakely is a local chef and has the house next door, in fact they share custody of a dog. What is blatantly clear to everyone except Kelly is that Mark is in love with Kelly and has been for years. This is my first and major problem with the book. I didn’t like Kelly. I found her to be irritating, self-absorbed, selfish and (frankly) stupid for not realising how Mark felt. My dislike of the heroine coloured my feelings towards the entire book. Then towards the end, when Kelly and Mark make their feelings known, Mark did something which was almost a carbon copy of what (I think) Logan did in [book:To Love and to Cherish|29997408], after waiting patiently for years, never telling Kelly how he felt, waiting for her to get on the same page, he can not literally wait 24 hours for her to confirm what her feelings are. No matter that he’s had years to think about how he feels and to know that she is the one for him, no matter that he has NEVER said a word to her about his feelings, she has to be all-in or he walks away. Grrrh. So, I am officially over Christmas stories and its only 14 November! They are too sweet, too cutesy, too predictable. I’m off to read something brutal and gory.

So in love with this story! Mark is a Girl’s dream, it’s like Kell protect herself on The beggining of their friendship like she thought she wouldn’t stand a chance with a guy like him!

Kelly Byrne is a little superstitious… ok… she bases most of her life choices on things like her Magic 8 Ball. So when she is approached by a psychic who tells her that her true love is someone she has already met… Kelly goes full blown ex hunting.Mark Blakely, best friend and stoic observer to Kelly’s escapades is not happy with Kelly’s plan… or her exes. He reminds her that she broke up with them for a reason… but is there more to it than that? This was a fantastic read. Kelly is quirky and all around hilarious. She is a Christmas fanatic, who seems to move from one outlandish thought to another. Mark comes off as an impassive observer to the whirlwind that is Kelly. But, he would do anything for her and is completely over the fact that she hasn’t noticed his feelings for her. This book was so festive and fun and brings you full force into wanting to celebrate the holidays and partake in every festive activity you can. Brimming with this authors signature humor and her always fantastic characters, this book is a must read. I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
