‘Sprinkled with humour, warmth and, of course, Christmas magic’ CATHY BRAMLEY
*WINNER OF THE NOVELICIOUS DEBUT OF THE YEAR AWARD*
Claudia is thirty and fearing her romance with long-term love Seth has lost its spark. Determined to rediscover the magic they once had, Claudia and Seth go on their first date in a very long time. But when the night ends in disaster, Claudia suddenly finds herself facing life – and Christmas – alone.
But being alone doesn’t mean she has to be miserable. Familiarising herself with long-forgotten exercise regimes and ill-advised sexy underwear, Claudia decides to fill up her Christmas with dates. And with best friends Penny and Nick at her side, a surplus of festive markets, mulled wine and Christmas tunes, Claudia feels ready to face anything life can throw at her. One thing’s for sure, this year Christmas is going to be very different . . .
Filled with Christmas sparkle, butterflies-in-your-stomach romance and a LOT of humour, The Twelve Dates of Christmas is the perfect festive romance to settle down with this winter. Perfect for fans of Sarah Morgan, Heidi Swan and Cathy Bramley.

Move over, ALL other Christmas books!
Claudia is stuck in a bit of a rut, both work-wise and relationship-wise. We start the book joining her on a date with her feckless boyfriend, Seth. The relationship has gone stale and she’s trying to breathe some life back into it. It soon becomes clear this is a futile mission, and the evening ends in disaster. Getting his willy out to show her in the toilets of the Royal Opera House was a good hint it was doomed! The end of the first date of Christmas is also the end of her relationship, luckily for us, because this leads to the next 11 entertaining dates of Christmas!I loved Claudia. I loved all the supporting characters, except those whom you’re supposed to hate! The story was a rollercoaster ride. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen next, it switches course!I enjoyed everything about this book! It has definitely become one of my favourites! I didn’t ever get bored: quite the contrary! It was un-put-downable!! I am, in fact, considering suing Lisa Dickenson! Suing her for causing the loss of my fingernails (bitten down too far) and for the mortifying embarrassment of giggling to myself on a full bus whilst reading! The characters were great, the story was entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny, the twists and turns were unpredictable, and the scenes were so delightfully Christmassy. I would actually look up after reading for a while and be confused for a split-second as to why I had no decorations up! Snowy scenes, soft snuggly jumpers, glasses of warm mulled wine or Baileys, and pretty sparkly decorations are almost tangible with Lisa’s wonderfully descriptive festive prose.I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I will be reading it again. I can see it joining Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as one of my regular Christmas traditions!

    A great Christmas story
Oh the path of true love never runs smoothly, does it? Especially not for the self-destructive heroine of The Twelve Dates of Christmas, Claudia; when Claudia and long term boyfriend Seth split up just before Christmas (what is it about Christmas that it seems to go hand in hand with heartbreak) she realises that she has just been existing and not living. Well no more, Claudia is dusting off the cobwebs from her life and giving herself a kick up the backside. One part of her life that really needs a boost is her love life; after several interesting (coughs – disastrous- coughs) dates, Penny realises with whom her heart really lies and sets out on trying to make things happen. The Twelve Dates of Christmas is a pure unadulterated will-they-won’t-they love story that pulls dramatically at the heartstrings and has you screaming my favourite saying at the characters – “Kiss her/him, you fool!” It is one of those brilliant books that sucks you right in and has you thinking about the characters, what they should do and how they are feeling long after you (begrudgingly) put the book down. Our protagonist Claudia really has the ability to pull at your heartstrings; she seems to constantly lose the things that she loves – first of all, dancing. Due to an injury a few years earlier, she is no longer eligible to be the prima ballerina that she always longed to be and when opportunities in the dancing field come her way she shies away from them – through fear? Possibly. It seems that she can’t allow herself to be near the things she loves because she destroys them. Maybe I am reading too much into her character but this is the overall impression that I got of Claudia. Mainly I wanted to give her a good shake and tell her to pull it together. However, it is the simple flaws that made her human and loveable. What Dickenson has done rather well is that she has created a “well fanciable” hero. The love interest for Claudia is swoons-worthy. Is it wrong to fancy fictional characters? Ah well, who cares. All I know is that The Twelve Dates of Christmas is a great book, with great characters and will make a great gift for your loved ones this Christmas.Twelve Dates of Christmas by Lisa Dickenson is available now.Follow Lisa Dickenson (@LisaWritesStuff) on Twitter.

I originally downloaded the first 2 dates as these were free to purchase on Amazon and decided that as the writing style was goo
Claudia is at a stage in life we all dread…she is 30, her long term relationship is falling apart, she isn’t doing what she loves and she has lost that confidence in herself so when her first date in years ends with her relationship falling apart she has to face up to all of what she already feared but now do so alone. Claudia seeks her friends Nick and Penny for support and finds herself on a whirlwind adventure of dates, new experiences and of finding herself but will she be alone still at Christmas?First off let me say this is a genre I would normally steer clear of as chick-lit is not something I read (being a 30 year old male this would kind of make sense) but I was actually impressed with this book. I originally downloaded the first 2 dates as these were free to purchase on Amazon and decided that as the writing style was good and the story was developed in an intelligent way I would be fair and read the full story to be able to rate it and so purchased the full set of dates. The story is well told and the Christmas references are delivered in a way that adds to the atmosphere and overall feel of the book rather than seeming to be something which is added in for a tacky gimmick. Well developed and thought out characters and with the 3 main characters it does have a feel of friends which is something the author has done well to achieve.A well written book that will keep you interested throughout and is an especially good read in the run up to Christmas to make you remember what you love about the season. If you are not sure if it is for you then download the first 2 dates and take things from there.

  7. Always New

Each year I like to read a Christmassy book around the holidays and I’ve had this one by Lisa Dickenson in my Kindle collection for a while. It started OK with the lovely description of the Christmas atmosphere in the city and the Christmas activities. Although I found myself regularly rolling my eyes because the heroine Claudia was being so silly. I mean thinking that she would be asked to join the ballet company after zero training after her injury, seriously?!But then the author lost me after the morning after text. The story went from silly to just plain stupid. In order to prevent any damage to my eyes due to excessive eye rolling, I quickly paged to the end and saved the novel in the do not recommend section. I will not read any further novels by this author.

This book is good if you’re looking for some light reading. I couldn’t help but feel it was just a tad too predictable. Certain moments proved to have me in a fit of giggles.
