December 1930. With the Depression biting deeper, it looks like many children in the East End will wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.

Widower Robbie Graham earns just enough to put food on the table for his children, Ben and Ruthie. Local cake shop owner Flo Hawkins can’t bear the thought of any child having nothing for Christmas. Along with her sister, Honour, she hatches a plan to bring some festive cheer to the community.

    Christmas is for Children!
A beautiful Christmas story taken place in London during the depression. A time when neighbours looked after each other because they really cared for each other. Rosie Clarke brought the characters to life with such vivid descriptions. It brought to life of how people suffered through the great depression after the first World War, men waiting for jobs on the street corners and at the docks, to see if the gaffer picked them out for work, how children were half starved and many had ragged clothes because the shortage of money. Recommended for anyone who loves a feel good historical novel and a very pleasing read. Rosie Clarke does it yet once again another five star reed.

    Lovely read
Story set in Victorian times of hardship, for the people of London. Flo ran a small shop, inherited from her Mother and was better off than most except, she was never Allowed to be with the love of her life and the Father of her daughter. This changes when Robbie comes back into her life, but he like many others, is struggling because of the absence of work.

    A Christmas Message
I loved this heartwarming story. It tells of a time when life was hard and hope was all many people had to hold on to. A time when receiving one gift on Christmas was more than many expected. The main characters are likeable and the whole story really lifts the spirits as the true meaning of Christmas leaps off the pages: being with the people we love, seeing the smiles of children and helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

What wonderful and exceptional storytelling with the characters that shined. The Times were certainly heartbreaking and desperate for all of the town. Flo and Honour lead a difficult lives, their love for each other ultimately ruled the day when all the facts of their past became known. Robbie’ s role and learning the true history of love for Flo brought him to become a much better father to Ben and Ruthie and a capable man with excellent skills. This book kept me captivated and truly enjoyed your storytelling immensely. Awaiting the next book, please!!!!

As usual Rosie Clarke never fails to disappoint, this was such a lovely book, very warm and loving. Amazing storyline, as is the norm for Rosie’s books. Can’t wait for her next book coming out in the Mulberry Lane series too.

The Author really had a good handle on the rough go all had during the depression. The characters were very real and so were their stories. I felt the was a little too much that was repeated and could have been trimmed without compromising the story at all. I look forward to reading more from Rosie Clarke.
