Wonderfully Comforting, Funny & Surprising
I’ve been a Katie Fforde fan for years, after discovering one of her early books in a charity shop and falling madly in love with it. I love her sensible, middle class characters and the slightly off-putting, pragmatic speech; it really couldn’t be any other writer, it’s so distinctive. I love the unique worlds she creates, the detail she puts into every inch, where her characters control their own destinies. They make you want to run off and become an antique dealer, or a painter, or live on a houseboat. And they’re always formulaic, in a good, comforting way. I usually avoid short stories so I was a little apprehensive, but I bought these on faith because I just love her novels so much. And I wasn’t disappointed. They’re wonderful, heart-warming, light reading that will definitely surprise you and make you smile. And what’s a rarity in the world of short stories, each and every one feels absolutely complete in and of themselves. There’s no sense that they should be longer, or that they were rushed or cut short to fit a word count. Every single one is perfectly formed and crafted. And they’re packed full of Christmas cheer. Perfect for getting in the spirit this time of year. I loved them!

Festive, Seasonal Compilation…..
A selection box of festive, seasonal shorts from Katie Fforde. An enjoyable compilation. Some predictable, perhaps, but it’s enjoyable and indulgent comfort reading all the same. A light, entertaining read.

A Calorie free Christmas Menu
Another brilliant book from Katie Fforde. As the info says, many of the short stories have been published before in magazines, but it’s great to have them all in one place to re read and doubtful you’ll have seen them all before anyway, I certainly hadn’t.Different lengths to fit the time you have, I read many whilst having a cuppa in between Christmas present wrapping sessions. The way the book is set out like a menu is brilliant and very helpful, especially when you are reading on a Kindle so can’t flip through pages to see how long a story is.

Tedious and so predictable.
A very disappointing collection of stories.Hardly a feast, more like a very unsatisfying snack! I certainly do not feel inclined to read any of Katie Fforde’s novels. The style of writing is almost childlike and there was no depth to any of her characters.I soon got bored when I realised the stories were all very similar .Complete waste of money.!

I love Katie Fforde! Although sometimes she is a little predictable, her reads are always satisfying. This book was fun because it laid out the stories as if they were courses in a dinner, and the length of the stories as well as the content pretty well reflected that. I don’t generally read many short stories, because many authors try to fit a whole novel into an itty, bitty story, and it is often forced and totally unbelievable. Ms. Fforde knows when to quit, however, and her stories, although many just reflecting the beginning of a relationship, were very enjoyable. Thanks, Katie!

I am a Big Katie Fford fan,but not a lover of short stories. As usual she won me over with her quick wit and insights into human nature. This book nursed me happily through my once a year cold. Each short story really sucked me in and left me satisfied.

loved it, I had read one story before now, but it was a lovely mix of stories.

This is a collection of short stories that are arragned like a full course dinner. The first stories are very short ( like apetisers) and then progress in length (like the main coursel). Others are more fluffy (desert) and are appropriatly at the end.I really like Katie Fforde and find her writtings peaceful and enjoyable. You will not be dispatointed with this purchase. It is perfect for English students who are trying to master the art of wrriting short stories.
