Hannah and Nico are meant to be together.

But fate is keeping them apart…

As soon as Hannah bumps into her brother Rob’s best friend Nico in Stockholm, the two rekindle a fast friendship. But Hannah has a boyfriend – and Nico has two children to look after.

When Hannah loses her beloved shop in Stockholm, though, she is forced to move back to the little village of Middledip – only to find Nico has just moved in too. Under the same snowy sky, can the childhood friends make a romance work – or are there too many obstacles standing in their way?

A heartwarming story of love, friendship, and Christmas magic, perfect for fans of Trisha Ashley and Jill Mansell.

    A perfect read for me
Christmas Wishes is partially set in the village of Middledip, where it was nice to see a few familiar characters from previous books re-appear, (don’t worry if you haven’t read previous ones, this is a standalone) and cold snowy Stockholm – having been to Stockholm during a snowy December I can vouch for how cold it is!Hannah Goodbody is in her Stockholm shop, selling luxury goods, when Nico, an old friend of her brother suddenly appears. The two enjoy catching up but romance is not yet on the cards – Hannah has a boyfriend Albin and Nico is in his own complicated situation. When awful Albin does the dirty on Hannah, she decides to return home to Middledip. Events have conspired to ensure that she is able to look after her injured 90 year old nan, who herself is on a break from her boyfriend after he wanted her to sign a prenup following a marriage proposal – my goodness, these people lead complicated love lives! Hannah of course needs to find work, but discovers that yet again, she is being taken advantage of.Although Hannah is one of the lead characters, much of the story focuses on Nico. A really lovely guy but one who comes with an awful lot of baggage in the shape of an ex-wife with addiction issues and thus ends up taking on the responsibility for two small girls, but only one being his. Nico certainly has a lot of challenges thrown his way however he was one of my favourite characters and I was so hoping that life would give him a break.Hannah and Nico may take the lead in this warm and engaging story but there are plenty of others who pull at the heart strings too and entertain. The two young girls, 8 year old Josie and 2 year old Maria, were an absolute delight and I’m not normally a children person. Nan Heather, with her wise advice and clever manipulation struck just the right note. The only character I hated with a passion was Albin, he was foul and how on earth someone as nice as Hannah ever got together with him in the first place was a mystery. There is a real sense of location when part of the story takes place in Stockholm. Vividly described local areas and landmarks, Swedish traditions, food and drink all add to the atmosphere – after the year we’re having with travel restrictions, it was a pleasure to do some armchair travelling!I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Middledip and Sweden with Hannah and Nico. As you may expect, nothing runs smoothly, there are plenty of challenges and misunderstandings to overcome for our two main characters, however as with previous books, the author doesn’t shy away from giving that added authenticity and realism by including more difficult subjects in the form of alcohol and drug addiction, eating disorders and job demands with the interlinked childcare problems.Despite the title, only a small part of the story actually takes place during Christmas – so it’s ideal for reading at any time and with the emphasis on love, doing the right thing and family values, all with a light touch of humour, this was exactly the warm and comforting read I needed at the moment. I loved it.

Feel-good festive fiction in a fabulous location!
Sue Moorcroft’s books are always a wonderful, uplifting read and Christmas Wishes was no exception.Set in beautifully described Stockholm – somewhere I’ve yet to visit – Hannah is delighted when old friend, Nico arrives back in her life. And although Hannah is in a relationship, I soon wanted she and the lovely Nico to be together, as they seemed the perfect match. Though Nico has so much going on in his life, a busy career and the demanding role of singe parent, is there any room for this burgeoning relationship to flourish? This compelling will they, won’t they story – laced through with the sights, tastes and sounds of this beautiful location, had me turning the pages desperate to find out. A super, satisfying read. Highly recommended.

    A feel-good festive read set in Stockholm…
Having enjoyed darker stories in November, I was ready to read some Christmas romance and Sue Moorcroft’s Christmas Wishes, set in Stockholm, promised some armchair travel too.Hannah Goodbody is a luxury goods retailer who is thrilled when Nico Pettersson, an old schoolmate, visits her shop in historic Gamla Stan, the bustling medieval part of Stockholm. From the outset, Hannah and Nico get along well. However, Hannah is already in a relationship, whilst Nico is run ragged juggling work as a marketing executive with his responsibilities as a single dad to two little girls. As Stockholm is a city I have yet to visit, it was wonderful to escape to the wintery setting. Christmas Wishes is sprinkled with comforting Swedish traditions, fascinating locations, as well as tempting descriptions of seasonal food. So much so that I plan to bake Saffron buns! (Traditionally eaten on December 13th, St Lucia’s Day, celebrating the Festival of Light, in the spirit of Advent and Christmas). Also, it was refreshing to discover the space given to Nico’s story – interesting to read from a single dad’s point of view. Sue Moorcroft never shies from gritty issues, even in Christmas fiction, and I found myself really rooting for Nico and the wonderful family he tries hard to stitch together. If you are searching for a feel-good festive read, set against a snowy backdrop, exploring family issues as well as romance, then it is all wrapped up beautifully in Christmas Wishes.

    Middledip at Christmas
Well, we all come with baggage, but Nico and Hannah do seem to have a disproportionate amount. Hannah enjoys running her small business in Sweden and has plans. Her boyfriend (and landlord), well, let’s just say you shouldn’t mix business and pleasure.Nico is Swedish but had lived in Middledip in his early life. Hannah’s family hail from Middledip — a lovely village which I enjoy revisiting from time to time.I thoroughly recommend yet another of Sue’s brilliant creations. The characters are so vivid and their backstories credible and well-researched. She touches on issues not normally associated with a Christmas feel-good and does it so gently!Maria absolutely steals the show… followed by Josie, her doting sister.

    Just wonderful
Just a wonderful read. If you don’t read this you are missing out on such a treat. I love all Sue Moorcroft’s books and Christmas Wishes – with its range of fabulous characters, settings of (familiar) Middledip and Stockholm (so vividly described I felt I was there, positively feeling the cold cold snow blowing in my face and tasting the warming hot chocolate after my trek), being totally absorbed in the trials and tribulations of complicated issues to be solved not to mention the misunderstandings – I found as always, perhaps this time even more so, unputdownable. Roll on Sue’s next novel.

I believe Sue Moorcroft is a new author for me as I couldn’t find any other books in my extensive library. With that said I have really enjoyed this first book because it’s very well written and the characters are all excellent, even the couple of messed up ones. I’ll be starting to read “Let It Snow” soon.*****

In real life, finding love can take many twists and turns. Christmas Wishes reflects the messiness of life and love. Divorce, health scares, an eating disorder, work challenges and previous unfulfilled relationships are all part of the story. Five stars would have occurred had the story been a bit tighter (did I really need to know about software and setting up a business plan?) and more time spent with Nick and the girls. Otherwise a good read.

I loved this beautiful book about how unimportant blood relations are when it comes to forming a family. Both Nico and Hannah have their own problems to deal with but they put other people first. It is always fun to read Sue:s descriptions of the different countries where her books are set. It has always made me want to travel to the places she writes about.
