Never fear: Jilly Cooper has the answer to everything.
Whether you should seek refuge in the cooking sherry or suggest a wholesome family walk, Jilly offers sound but often hilarious advice about how to get through the roller-coaster ride that is the festive season.

Entrtaining light-weight read by the marvellous Miss Cooper
So this isn’t one of the greater reads by Miss Cooper but it IS consistently laugh-out-loud funny nonetheless.Definitely one to read and absorb in the run up to Christmas. We all have those cringe-worthy family members and we all have the same panic-ridden countdown to the big day. She’s a treat to read – enjoy.

festive laughs
Another ‘can’t put down book’ by this brilliant writer. I found myself chuckling all the way through. This is one observant lady with a knack of making you remember instances of your own Christmas. Very funny in a lighthearted way as she pokes fun at all our sometimes silly festive neuroses.

Not what I expected
I maybe ordered this book in too much of a hurry. I expected a typical funny Jilly Cooper novel instead it was a list of to do things before planning Xmas! After a couple of boring chapters I chucked it to one side. Far from a fun read like her usual stuff.

Worst book of Jilly coopers I’ve ever read, don’t bother, absolute drivel

Jilly Cooper has a great talent for stepping back and looking at the customs of her fellow Englishmen. This book would make a charming present to yourself or anyone else who enjoys the quirks of our British fellows. It would help if you know something of British holiday customs, such as what Boxing Day is – the day after Christmas, the love of marzipan frosted fruitcakes – but they don’t call them that; a banger is not a car accident, it could be a beat up car you drive around town, but usually is a sausage. . Bottom line is that this is a fun, interesting book that gives a light and different look on the holidays that even Americans could enjoy

Given Jilly Cooper’s other works, I was wondering how this was going to turn out. I’m glad I bought it as it gave me lots of laughter on my daily commute. Using a fictitious and borderline dysfunctional family, as well as giving useful tips of her own and from others, Ms Cooper left me feeling that my own celebration of Christmas isn’t so boring or mad. I enjoyed the bit about carol singers, having answered the door carol singers (neighbours’ kids chancing their arms) one mid-November.

If you find yourself feeling blue around the holidays, this humorous take on everything from relatives to office parties will have you chuckling in no time. As it describes the author’s very British holiday experiences, it will also appeal to Anglophiles everywhere.
